2011 Kansas City Chiefs
The defending AFC West Champions have a stretch of season ahead of them that will test their mettle. On November 27th, the Chiefs will face the Pittsburgh Steelers followed by the Bears the following week, then the Jets and finally the Packers. That is one tough stretch of games and Coach Haley (as are his assistants) is doing everything he can to get his team ready, including bringing back the Port-A-John drill; that is the drill where port-a-johns are lugged onto the field and running backs are put inside with closed doors. A football is then thrown and the door opened. The back has to react to light changes as well as the speeding ball. Another popular drill this season is the Smash the QB with the ball. QB Coach Jim Zorn has his ball boys throwing huge exercise balls at his QB’s as they drop back to pass. "The key is learning how to react to things flying at you,” Zorn said recently.
The franchise managed a deal with the Cleveland Browns and moved down in the draft to select Pittsburgh receiver Jonathan Baldwin and Coach Haley is confident they got the right person. “We had a formal interview with him at the combine and we brought him in for one of our 30 visits. We are satisfied with what we found.
